Mark Burnell
and Anne Pringle, "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves"
Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret,
September 7, 2003, 8:00 pm
Mark
Burnell and Anne Pringle have taken Chicago cabaret fans on "Tales
of Our Travels" and a trip through their own songbook, and now they
are reviving (with substantial changes) one of their first shows,
"Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves." This is one fine show!
Opening with
Burnell and Pringle wandering (bravely), with only a candle to guide
them, to the stage, while performing an a cappella, un-amplified rendition
of "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves," this tribute to "those who live
on the outside" opens with a bang, and it never fails to entertain,
surprise, and thrill. Whether it is their fun take on Irving Berlin's
"A Couple of Swells," their chilling rendition of "The Ballad of Sweeney
Todd," or their fantastically, formally, and funny version of "The
Ballad of Mack the Knife," Burnell and Pringle certainly prove that
they are one talented and entertaining couple. This show is simply
great!
Mr. Burnell
and Ms. Pringle will be performing "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves"
every Sunday in September at 7:00 pm at Davenport's Piano Bar and
Cabaret.
DAVENPORT'S Piano Bar
& Cabaret is located at 1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago,
