HERE & THERE - PART I

It's another full issue, and there's a good reason why so many shows are being presented this month, especially in NYC. The preliminary ballots for the MAC AWARDS are out, and the MAC rules for voting state that voting for the nominees is based on "work that the voters have actually seen" - meaning, live and in a club. Voting should not be based on video clips on the internet. Voting should not be based on choosing friends or colleagues simply because they are on the ballot. In order to keep the integrity of the award intact, MAC has asked that members adhere to this request. If voters have not seen any nominees in a particular category, it is acceptable to not make any selections in that category.

Things should ease up after the 15th and the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE issues should be shorter, enabling more HERE & THERE items. With all the news items below, we are already over our 10,000 word limit (by 1000 words!).

I wanted to include a full report of the fantastic MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA held on Tuesday, March 2nd at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER but there is no way I can adequately cover it today (I was sort of "shell shocked" all day yesterday). So, here's the deal: On Saturday we will be sending out our weekly MEMBERS ONLY newsletter, and we will put our report there - and then publish the report on the website (with a few photos). I have a lot of people to thank, especially Tom Stajmiger, who produced the show on behalf of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - lining up the cast, arranging the show order, and even selling about 2-dozen tickets for the show! Also Richard Skipper, who MC'd the event - a fantastic job he did, too. And the amazing Alex Rybek, who not only accompanied all the performers on all the songs, but even contributed two of his own songs to the show! Click here to read all about MARCH IS CABARET MONTH http://www.MarchIsCabaret.com/

A special thank you to our sponsors - who not only covered all the expenses for the show, but also are covering the additional expenses of promoting MARCH IS CABARET MONTH for the rest of the month!

COMING IN MONDAY'S ISSUE - BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists - http://www.bostoncabaret.com/ ) Celebrates MARCH IS CABARET MONTH! Three special nights of cabaret!

SAVE THE DATE: On Saturday, April 10th at 2:00 pm, John Hoglund and Geri Malino are producing a benefit for Gregory Kennell at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER. Gregory recently was hospitalized with an unknown illness and soon sank into a coma that lasted two months. While Gregory has now regained consciousness, he remains paralyzed and only able to communicate and move his left hand slightly. Already, major artists from the entertainment community have signed on for this worthy event for one of cabaret's most consistent and persistent champions. In the past, Gregory has designed graphics for numerous artists, magazines, newspapers and albums. He has also served as a member of the MAC Board of Directors. All proceeds will be earmarked specifically to supplement his much needed physical therapy and other long time rehabilitative services which are extensive and expensive. Insurance does not cover all of these costs. More news coming in Monday's issue.

SPECIAL REMINDER FOR MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) MEMBERS: Your preliminary Ballot must be received by Monday, March 15th - 44 cent stamp is required on the envelope, else it will be returned to you. Official Nominees will be announced on Thursday, March 25th at 1:00 pm at BARNES & NOBLE (Lincoln Sq.). Tickets are available for the MAC AWARDS SHOW, held on Tuesday, May 4th at BB KINGS, NYC right now at www.macnyc.com
