CHRISTMAS IN A CHINESE RESTAURANT WITH JEWISH COMEDY! - Cathy Ladman,

Comedy presents the "best in Jewish humor during the Christmas holidays."
at the NEW ASIA RESTAURANT (772 Pacific Avenue, San Francisco, CA
- 415-522-3737) on December 23rd, 24th & 25th. To honor the state
bird of Florida - the Early Bird, they are featuring early dinner
shows (5:00 pm) on Sunday, December 23rd & Tuesday, December 25th.
As in the past, the Monday, December 24th dinner show will take place
at 6:00 pm. Part of the proceeds will benefit the INTERNATIONAL GAY
& LESBIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, and the BAY AREA JEWISH HEALING
CENTER.
This annual
event brings Borscht Belt humor to San Francisco, featuring Jewish
comedy, yummy Chinese food & fortune cookies filled with Yiddish proverbs.
Come laugh with a wide array of some of the country's funniest Jewish
comedians. Now in its 9th year, Kung Pao Kosher Comedy¦ has become
as much a holiday tradition in San Francisco as The Nutcracker and
the Loehman's after-Christmas sale. Each year's celebration is a sell-out
and caters to over 2,000 people. Kung Pao fans want to book their
tickets one year in advance! It's the Bar Mitzvah or bris you never
had ? and you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy it!
This year's
headliner is Cathy Ladman, one of the country's top comedians. Making
her return appearance to Kung Pao, (1st appearance: 1995) Ladman's
many TV guest starring roles include EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and JUST
SHOOT ME. She has a recurring role and has been a writer on CAROLINE
IN THE CITY and makes regular appearances on POLITICALLY INCORRECT
and DR. KATZ: PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST. She has been featured in such
films as WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM? and MY FELLOW AMERICANS. Ladman
has had her own HBO ONE NIGHT STAND comedy special and, in 1992, received
the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-Up Comic. She has
appeared on THE TONIGHT SHOW countless times, and was also the only
female comic to appear on the last two Johnny Carson TONIGHT SHOW
ANNIVERSARY shows.
Lisa Kron
has been writing and performing solo work for the past 16 years. Kron
recently starred in the NYC production of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES. She
appeared in Paul Rudnick's THE MOST FABULOUS STORY EVER TOLD and workshops
of Paula Vogel's THE MINEOLA TWINS. She received an Obie Award, an
LA Dramalogue Award and a GLAAD Media Award for her solo show, 2.5
MINUTE RIDE and a Drama Desk nomination for 101 HUMILIATING STORIES.
She has appeared in plays by numerous NYC artists including Holly
Hughes, Ann Magnuson and Carmelita Tropicana. Kron is a founding member
of the Obie and Bessie award-winning theater company, THE FIVE LESBIAN
BROTHERS, whose plays THE SECRETARIES, BRAVE SMILES, and BRIDES OF
THE MOON have been produced at theaters including Joseph Papp Public
Theater, Theatre Rhino in SF, and Diverse Works in Houston.
NY-based comic
Scott Blakeman performs regularly on TV, radio, comedy clubs and festivals,
and at Jewish fund raisers. He was the warm-up comedian for THE LATE
SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, and has appeared on A&E's EVENING AT THE
IMPROV, CAROLINE'S COMEDY HOUR, and Comedy Central's COMICS ONLY.
He has been featured in THE BAR MITZVAH SHOW at the prestigious MONTREAL
JUST FOR LAUGHS FESTIVAL, and in NY at the TOYOTA COMEDY FESTIVAL.
Blakeman was the only comedian to perform at Senator Joseph Lieberman's
50th birthday party. In addition, he does political humor commentaries
for National Public Radio and business humor for CNN. He received
national acclaim playing the part of a gay man shopping with his lover
in the historical IKEA TV commercial, which is in the permanent collection
of the Museum of TV and Radio and was named one of the 50 best commercials
of all time by Entertainment Weekly. Career highlights include performing
at the National Jewish Singles Convention in Dallas and a recently
completed 21-show tour of the South Florida condominium circuit.
The evening
is hosted by comedian and Kung Pao creator Lisa Geduldig, a sought-after
comic and comedy producer, who also presents the annual productions
- FEYGELAH SCHMEYGELAH, FUNNY GIRLZ and QUEER COMEDY QUACK UP. Her
mother unintentionally writes most of her material.
