The Duplex Cabaret Theatre presents DOWNTOWN REVIVALS

Uptown performers bring their shows to a downtown crowd

THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/) is proud to present DOWNTOWN REVIVALS on Sundays in September in the famed cabaret space in the heart of New York's West Village. DOWNTOWN REVIVALS was designed with the idea that performers who normally play more expensive rooms, will bring their shows downtown for one night only, playing for a $12 cover. The series debuted in June to great success and sold-out houses, featuring cabaret luminaries Natalie Douglas, Barbara Brussell, Quinn Lemley and John Wallowitch. All shows begin at 7:00 pm. There is a $12 cover, and a 2-drink minimum.

After a successful performing career in her native South Africa, Natalie Gamsu moved to New York in 1992. She made her Manhattan debut at EIGHTY EIGHT'S, where she subsequently headlined six seasons in her own shows. She has also performed at the famed OAK ROOM in The Algonquin Hotel, THE FIREBIRD CAFE, FEZ (under Time Cafe), THE RUSSIAN TEA ROOM, THE BALLROOM, THE NANCY LAMOTT ROOM at Bradstan Country Inn and the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention at Town Hall. Natalie has performed at THE CINEGRILL in Los Angeles, and THE EXPRESS in Fresno. She won the Back Stage Bistro Award in 1994 for Outstanding Vocalist and was nominated for a MAC Award for Outstanding Debut in the same year. She won the MAC Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist in 1997, and again in 2000.

Lisa Asher has appeared as a featured vocalist and actress in numerous concert and theatrical venues around the country. Most recently, she was involved in the world premiere of the new musical, "Almost Heaven . . . Songs and Stories of John Denver," at the Tony Award-winning Denver Center Theatre Company. The show received rave reviews and there are plans for a national tour as well as European and Broadway productions. Lisa toured nationally with the concert version of the Broadway show, "The Who's Tommy," and performed in the Off-Broadway hit "Woody Guthrie's American Song," which received two Drama Desk Nominations, including one for Best Musical. Ms. Asher appeared in the national tour of "Woody Guthrie's American Song," and appeared with Bruce Springsteen, Indigo Girls, Ani DeFranco and Arlo Guthrie in a concert tribute to Woody Guthrie produced by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She made her national television debut in a solo vocal performance on the Emmy Award-winning The "Rosie O'Donnell Show." Ms. Asher is the recipient of a MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Award, a Back Stage Bistro Award and a Cabaret Hotline Critics Choice Award for her solo work in cabarets. Her critically-acclaimed debut CD, "Let The Mystery Be," was nominated for a MAC Award for Recording of the Year.

Amanda Green is an award-winning performer and songwriter. Lyricist: Once Upon a Primetime (recently seen at The Powerhouse Theatre in LA), Up The Week Without a Paddle, which received a 2001 LA Drama Critic's Circle Award nomination for Best Score, as well as a Garland Award for Best Score. Amanda won two 1999 MAC Awards (Outstanding Musical Comedy Performer and Outstanding Comedy Song), and has been nominated for three others. She received Back Stage Magazine's Bistro Award (Outstanding Comedy Song), and The Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting from The Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Amanda performed her hit show, "Put a Little Love in Your Mouth! Amanda Green's Tounge-in-Cheek Songs" to sold-out houses at off-Broadway's acclaimed Second Stage Theatre, and also at Joe's Pub, The FireBird Cafœ, and The Laurie Beechman Theatre at the Westbank Cafe. Amanda, and others, have performed her songs at Carnegie Hall, Rainbow and Stars, Town Hall, Tavern on the Green, Manhattan Theatre Club, Carolines, etc. Her new CD is due out this fall.

Jeff Harnar has twice won the Manhattan Association of Cabaret Award (MAC) as Best Male Vocalist and three times been honored with the Back Stage Bistro Award (Newcomer, Male Vocalist, Best Show). Jeff has appeared at Carnegie Hall in both the Cole Porter and Noel Coward Centennial Galas and has performed his one-man show at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall. He has brought his shows to every major American city, Europe (Paris & Oslo) and the high seas (QE2, Crystal, Celebrity, among others). In collaboration with Musical Director Alex Rybeck and Director Sara Louise Lazarus, Jeff has created several "theme" shows that have been seen in New York at the Algonquin Hotel, Rainbow & Stars, The Russian Tea Room, Town Hall and the FireBird cafe. "The 1959 Broadway Songbook," one of these acclaimed shows, has been recorded live on CD (Original Cast Records) and broadcast on PBS (it is this show that Jeff will reprise as part of Downtown Revivals). "Because of You: Fifties Gold," Jeff's second solo recording, is a collection of pop classics from the song books of Tony Bennett, Nat "King" Cole, Doris Day, Johnny Mathis and Johnny Ray. Jeff returned to the FireBird Cafe with "Sammy Kahn All The Way," directed by Barry Kleinbort, which enjoyed a sold-out run. On the road, Jeff has opened for the McGuire Sisters and toured nationally as the singing narrator of "Gershwin on Ice," starring Dorothy Hamill. That show was aired as a special presentation of the A&E Network. Other Television credits include "CBS This Morning," "The Charles Grodin Show" and a "PBS Holiday Concert" co-starring KT Sullivan. Jeff can also be seen with singer Shauna Hicks in "The Mickey & Judy Show," an evening of songs from Hollywood's golden era. Jeff's most recent recordings are "The Mickey & Judy Show" and "Sammy Cahn All The Way."
