& ASCAP PRESENT SONGWRITERS' SHOWCASE ON AUGUST 6th

with Special Guest, Three-Time Academy Award-Winning Composer/Lyricist,
Stephen Schwartz
MAC
(Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) and ASCAP (The American
Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) will co-present the
MAC/ASCAP Songwriters' Showcase at THE LIGHTHOUSE (111 East 59th Street,
NYC), on Tuesday, August 6th at 6:00 pm. Admission is $10 for the
general public, $5 for MAC and ASCAP members. Seating is on a first
come, first seated basis. No advance reservations are possible.
The line-up features songs
and performances by: Francesca Blumenthal; David Buskin, Rob Carlson
and George Wurzbach; Brian Feinstein; Zina Goldrich; Ricky Ian Gordon;
Diana Hansen Young; Marcy Heisler; Chris Miller; Barry Moritz; Ben
Schaechter; Rick Swanson; Kirby Tepper; Nathan Tysen; and Kathy King
Wouk.
Special guest Stephen
Schwartz has contributed music and/or lyrics to GODSPELL, PIPPIN,
THE MAGIC SHOW, THE BAKER'S WIFE, WORKING (which he also adapted and
directed), PERSONALS, RAGS, and CHILDREN OF EDEN. He collaborated
with Leonard Bernstein on the English texts for Bernstein's MASS and
wrote the title song for the play and movie BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE.
For children, Mr. Schwartz
has written a one-act musical, THE TRIP, and a picture book, THE PERFECT
PEACH. For films, he collaborated with Alan Menken on the scores for
the Disney animated features POCAHONTAS and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE
DAME and wrote the songs for the DreamWorks animated feature THE PRINCE
OF EGYPT. He provided music and lyrics for the original television
musical, GEPPETTO, seen on The Wonderful World of Disney, and has
released two CDs of new songs entitled "Reluctant Pilgrim" and "Uncharted
Territory" for Fynsworth Alley Records.
Mr. Schwartz is currently
working on a new musical for the stage, WICKED. Mr. Schwartz is the
recipient of three Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards, three Drama
Desk Awards, and a tiny handful of tennis trophies.
The Songwriters' Showcase,
produced by Michael A. Kerker and Jamie deRoy, will be hosted by Jamie
deRoy who began these showcases in 1987 as part of the regular MAC
seminar series on cabaret-related topics.
