Boston Benefit on September 14th to Raise Money for the American Friends Service Committee

On Saturday, September 14th, IRNE Award winner Will McMillan and pianist Doug Hammer will respond to the events of 9/11 with an evening of music to raise money for women and children in Afghanistan. The benefit will be presented at CAMBRIDGE CENTER FOR ADULT EDUCATION (56 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-547-6789 - Ext. 1 - http://www.ccae.org/) at 8:00 pm. A donation of $15 or more per person will be accepted at the door.

"Following the events of September 11th," says McMillan, "I found comfort and hope in music. Certain songs have become associated in my mind with what happened that day - and with how we have been making sense of the world since that day. This concert is a chance to sing some of these songs and raise money to help women and children in Afghanistan whose lives have also been changed since 9/11."

Will's partner in this undertaking is pianist, Doug Hammer. Doug is a scholarship graduate of the Berklee College of Music, where he studied Pop, Jazz, and Classical styles of music. He currently runs Dreamworld, a music production company and has composed and produced music for film, video, jingles, theater, and local artists.

Will's show "Will & Company" here at CCAE won a 2001 IRNE award for best Cabaret Performance from the Independent Reviewers of New England. He and Doug will perform songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Craig Carnelia, Annie Dinerman, David Friedman, Stephen Sondheim, Burt Bacharach and Alec Wilder, among others.

All proceeds from this event will go to the American Friends Service Committee for relief and development work in Afghanistan. Come and hear two musicians at the top of their game in a concert honoring the resilience, the pain, the hope, the fear, the challenges and the joy of living in a post 9/11 world.
