"THE
ROCK ALBERS SHOW" RETURNS TO ROSES IN EXTENDED RUN
Since
its opening at DON'T TELL MAMA in the fall of November 2000, The Rock
Albers Show has been exciting audiences and critics - and colleagues.
Albers in his hit show pokes fun at American pop culture. Focusing
on the uniqueness of his comedy material. The acclaimed show, now
entering its third season, is reopening at UPSTAIRS AT ROSE'S TURN
(55 Grove Street, NYC - SmartTix: 1-212-206-1515 or http://www.smarttix.com/)
on Saturdays, March 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th and April 5th, 12th,
19th & 26th at 9 pm. The show's musical director is Dick Gallagher,
who composed the music for the hit Off-Broadway show, "When Pigs Fly,"
which played in New York for two years. As a musical director, Gallagher
has worked with singers including Patti Lupone and has received seven
MAC Awards for musical direction. There is a $10 cover for the show
which is being waived for all MAC members and their guests (using
the Discount Code MAC). There is a 2-drink minimum.
His fellow
performers awarded Albers, the eccentric comedian known for performing
in rabbit ears, the MAC Award as the Best Male Stand-up Comedian at
Town Hall in New York in the spring of 2002. In the show, Albers rants
about state birds, national flags, English chocolate and the world's
best selling children's book series "The Berenstain Bears" as well
as makes his case to save the "Bunny Hop" from oblivion. He also sings
parody songs about American icons Donald Trump ("he's creepy and he's
cheesy"), Janet Reno ("my own drag queen-o") and Martha Stewart ("Queen
of the Universe").
Albers' rabbit
ears provide an amusing contrast to the Brooks Brother suit he wears
during his act. After performances, Albers, in his ears and bunny
tail, usually heads to JOE ALLEN'S Restaurant, which is known for
attracting Broadway actors after their shows. "I get more attention
than any star," boasts Albers, "I can't tell you how many women have
given me their cards. They love my tail."
Albers has
performed in all of the major New York comedy clubs including PS NBC,
Caroline's, Standup New York, Gotham, Comic Strip, Comedy Cellar,
Boston Comedy, Rose's Turn and The Duplex. He was recently a guest
on National Public Radio's "The Next Big Thing" and Manhattan Neighbor
Network's "Jamie de Roy & Friends," and he has also been seen on New
York 1 News as well as MTV.
The show
is directed by award winning director and writer Stephen Rosenfield
who has directed at The Roundabout Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre,
The Actor's Studio and is the Director of the American Comedy Institute
and the Standup Comedy Experience.
