TRIO BOULEVARD EAST BRING NEWEST SHOW TO ODETTE'S

The
vocal trio Boulevard East returns to THE CABARET at Odette's (South
River Road, New Hope, PA - 215-862-3000 - http://www.odettes.com/)
on Friday & Saturday, September 19th & 20th at 8:00 pm. They bring
their newest show, "Act II," to the famed night spot, marking the
group's third appearance there within the past 12 months. Cover charge
for the show is $17, with an $8 food/drink minimum.
While noted
for performing standards from the golden age of the American Songbook
- the 30s and 40s - the trio is looking to expand their repertoire.
The show will include some works by the tried and true - such as Harold
Arlen and Rodgers and Hart, the contemporary and well-known, such
as Kander and Ebb, Maltby and Shire and William Finn, as well as featuring
the talents of songwriter Michael Holland both as composer and arranger.
In "Act II" Boulveard East will be performing Mr. Holland's "The Mention
of You" in a special arrangement by him for the group. Mr. Holland
also serves the trio as arranger of both "We Arlen Love" a collection
of songs by the writer who brought us the scores of The Wizard of
Oz, and House of Flowers among others, and "The Best Tuxedo in Pearls"
an amalgam of the big band tunes "Tuxedo Junction," "The Best is Yet
to Come," and "String of Pearls."
Originally
formed by Christopher Howatt and Dana Merritt as Eastern Standard
Time, Boulevard East harkens back to a time when melodies were humable
and lyrics were memorable, composed by such artists as the Gershwins,
Hoagy Carmichael and Richard Rodgers, as well as celebrating outstanding
contemporary songwriters from both the theatre and cabaret stages.
Mr. Howatt serves as musical director, pianist and singer in the group.
Joined by Ms. Merritt and soprano Beth Covell, they form the trio
that performs those wonderful songs in "fabulous three-part harmony."
Since their
successful debut at The Triad in January 1997, the trio has performed
at various prestigious venues and affairs throughout the metropolitan
area, including Judy's Chelsea, The Garrick Gaieties, Manhattan School
of Music, and New York's own Dutch Treat Club, home to such luminaries
as Walter Cronkite, Art Buchwald. As Eastern Standard Time, the trio
was selected to appear at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Tenth Anniversary
Cabaret Convention at Town Hall, sharing the stage with such cabaret
luminaries as Cybill Shepherd and Michael Feinstein, and was nominated
in the Outstanding Vocal Group category for the 2000 and 2001 MAC
(Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Award.
