American Classics presents the second season of their popular new series Songs & Singers with "You Took Advantage - Songs of Rodgers & Hart," following up on their presentation of the early Rodgers & Hart show Peggy-Ann last November. Songs & Singers, based on the popular series Lyrics & Lyricists in New York and Singers & Songwriters in California, was created by American Classics in 2003. You Took Advantage continues the Songs & Singers mission to bring some of the finest local singers to the series, this time presenting Bobbi Carrey (a 2003 Fellow of the Yale Cabaret Conference), Eric Bronner (also a 2003 Yale Cabaret Conference Fellow and an American Classics regular), song duo Benjamin Sears & Bradford Conner. Guest performers are Bob Jolly (also an American Classics regular), Mary Ann Lanier and Margaret Ulmer.

Featured songs are Manhattan and the Opening Chorusfrom the 1925 Garrick Gaities; Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered(Pal Joey, 1940) The Lady is a Tramp, I Wish I Were in Love Again, and My Funny Valentine (all from Babes in Arms, 1937); I Married an Angel (I Married an Angel, 1938); The Girl Friend (The Girl Friend, 1926); an early rarity I'd Like to Poison Ivy (The Melody Man, 1924) You Took Advantage of Me (Present Arms); and a group from I'd Rather Be Right (1937) including Have You Met Miss Jones?. The program also features songs from the little-known film Mississippi (1935, the only score Rodgers & Hart wrote for Bing Crosby), including the hit It's Easy to Remember; and a medley of songs from the 1934 Maurice Chevalier/Jeanette MacDonald film The Merry Widow, for which Lorenz Hart provided the English lyrics.

Founded in 1996, American Classics has become an important part of the Boston musical and theatrical scene. In 2000, American Classics began their important Musicals in Concert series with performances of Irving Berlin's first show Watch Your Step(1914). In 2001, American Classics gave the first revival of the Dietz & Schwartz classic revue, The Band Wagon, which was given a special IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) Award. American Classics merged with Theatre in Process in 2002 to better fulfill each organization's goals.

In November, 2002, American Classics revived Irving Berlin's second Broadway show, Stop! Look! Listen! This past November, American Classics gave a rare revival of the early Rodgers & Hart musical, Peggy-Ann.
