The production of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE'S SECOND ANNUAL
MARCH IS CABARET MONTH celebration on March 10th at
THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) is being produced by Tom Stajmiger (who has a a lot of experience in producing events) and Tom has lined up a fantastic group of performers for the show. 2009 Nightlife Award winner Brandon Cutrell will host the show, presenting a lineup from newcomers to multi-award winners. In addition to the two "debut" winners of our
MEMBERS' CHOICE poll, newcomer Antonio Edwards will perform. Other performers include Kristy Cates (Broadway's Elphaba and part of original WICKED cast), multi-award winner Natalie Douglas, Anne Steele (who won the Metropolitan Room's Metrostar Contest), Joan Curto (from Chicago), Anna Bergman, Sally Mayes and Jack Donahue. Of course, as with all live entertainment events, performers are subject to change.

Here is the list of the winning CDs chosen by cabaret writer/reviewer John Hoglund from dozens of CDs submitted for our CABARET HOTLINE HOTLINE "CDS FOR THE HOLIDAYS" SHOWCASE EVENT and announced on Tuesday, November 11th. So many fantastic CDs were submitted, John wisely decided to break them into categories and pick the top one in each category.
CABARETSINGS.COM has a "green light" -
http://www.cabaretsings.com is a new website, sponsored by CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, to promote the songs and songwriters of cabaret. Over 50 songwriters have shown interest in this project and now 10 songwriters showed serious interest. Right now the website consists of a very blank opening home page and a link to one songwriter. This was set up to allow songwriters who were interested to sample what the final product would look like. I will be attempting to add one additional songwriter a day at least until the 10 submissions are completed. Official launch date is October 1, 2008.
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is getting set to announce the date and place of their previously announced CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NOVEMBER HOLIDAY CABARET CD EVENT - presenting the songs of 10 CDs chosen from "Cabaret CDs" released in 2008. You are invited to submit CDs that qualify. Long-time cabaret critic/reviewer/writer John Hoglund has agreed to serve as judge for the event - he will choose up to 10 CDs from those submitted - including one to be designated "CD of the Year 2008". The "chosen 10" recording artists will be invited to come to the show to perform 2 songs from their CDs. The winning CD will receive our first D. J. Bradley "CDs for Christmas" award (the CDs do not need to be Christmas themed - but we're having the show in November, in time to promote CDs for Holiday gifting so it all ties together).
The voting for the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERS' CHOICE FAVORITE CABARET SONG ended on Friday night, September 19th. As it was, just over 120 of the over-300 2008-2009 members took part in the voting - a little disappointing (and surprising) since this time around members were asked to vote for their personal favorite - not for "the best" - so it was not necessary for voters to be familiar with all the songs on the list. Quite surprising to me - considering the list of nominees - 2 members actually admitted that they not familiar with ANY of the songs and chose not to vote.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 I was working at my computer in an office on West 34th Street between Fifth & Sixth Avenues when I received a call from a friend urging me to turn on the TV - an airplane had crashed into one of the towers at the World Trade Center. I found my little 3 inch TV in my bottom drawer (purchased a few months earlier on a whim at a close-out sale) and fired it up, just in time to watch a second plane hit the second tower,
HERE & THERE or WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION
When we last wrote on Thursday (
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #80808), I was saying: "In just a few minutes I will head for LaGuardia Airport to fly to St. Louis, MO, to attend the opening of a new cabaret venue - "Casual Cabaret" - which will make its premier at the new KRANZBERG ART CENTER STUDIO THEATRE (501 North Grand Street, St. Louis, MO - 314-795-8778) on Saturday, August 30th. There will be a "meet & greet" after the Saturday night show and I hope to have a chance to chat with many of the folks in the area who subscribe to the newsletter. There will be a 90-minute "mini-seminar" on cabaret on Saturday, August 30th at 11:00 am at the same venue - a time for me to meet you - and share together some thoughts, experiences, questions and even complaints about the art of cabaret."

"AFTER DARK WITH JOHN HOGLUND" EXCLUSIVELY ON THE WEBSITE
Over the many years I have known him, John Hoglund has
written for about a dozen magazines, from BACK STAGE to THEATER
WEEK to PRIVATE LIVES. He has also been a friend and mentor of
dozens of cabaret and Broadway performers over the years, and
is probably the most popular and respected reviewer/critic on
the cabaret scene. He even wrote for the print edition of CABARET
HOTLINE for a few years. posted

JEFF
MATSON AWARD RECIPIENTS NAMED FOR 2007 The JEFF
MATSON AWARD was created to honor the memory of songwriter/writer/director/producer/graphic
designer Jeff Matson, who passed away suddenly on April 2, 2005
from a rare blood disorder. His talents were many, but his greatest
talent was that of inspiring and encouraging other performers
towards perfection in their craft. In 2005 the first award was
presented to D.C. Anderson, and last year's recipients were Trudi
Mann and Hector Coris. posted
